The short answer

One ping (坪) is 400/121 square metres, which is about 3.3058 m² or 35.58 square feet. To convert ping to m², multiply by 3.3058. To convert m² to ping, divide by 3.3058.

Worked example

A listing says 30 ping. 30 × 3.3058 = 99.17 m², or about 1,067 square feet. Going the other way, 100 m² ÷ 3.3058 = 30.25 ping.

Why listings and floor plans disagree

Taiwan listings often quote ping including shared areas such as stairwells, lifts and the pool or gym. The area you can actually use inside the unit is usually smaller. Ask for the registered area (權狀) breakdown and compare the main building area with the shared area.

  • Main building area (主建物): the space inside your unit.
  • Accessory area (附屬建物): balconies and similar.
  • Shared area (公設): your share of common facilities.
